Neurographic Art - A Mindful Drawing Technique that Requires No Drawing Skills
Were you one of those kids in school that always doodled in the margins in order to focus? If so, you were intuitively doing what scientists now know is a calming brain exercise.
Neurographic art is a type of doodling/drawing technique, which comprises drawing freeform lines or 'neuro lines.' These are meant to enable the connection between the conscious and unconscious, gaining access to the inner self by using a specific method or pattern.
In this workshop we will introduce you to the basics of neurographics and what it can do for you!
We are all going through some crazy times. We all have ways of soothing ourselves some good, some bad. For many of us neurographics has been a tonic. Come see if it works for you!
Class pricing : $5.00 per person, children 16 and under free

FLOOD the STREETS with ART OPEN HOUSE Nov 24th 1-4pm
Come to Studio64, make art with us and spread some Joy!
This party is inspired by artist Scott Wong who used social media to launch the first FLOOD the STREETS with ART
On Black FRIDAY 10 years ago as an antidote to consumerism. His motivation was to encourage artists to leave free art gifts around their towns as random acts of kindness.
We will have several art stations set up where you can paint rocks, transform ginkgo leaves into butterflies and make peace ornaments.
This is a family friendly event.
Hope to see you there!
Anita Gail Jones is a visual artist, professional storyteller and writer, born and raised in Albany, Georgia, living in the San Francisco Bay Area
From her earliest days, she’s been telling stories. Beginning at age five, when she went to school with her sister, Betty, and was allowed to “audit” Mrs. Mary Louise DuBignon Clark’s fifth grade classroom at Hazard Laboratory School in Albany, Georgia, she sat in the back and told stories by drawing pictures.
As soon as Anita started school and could string together enough words to make paragraphs she became a writer: asking and trying to answer questions about her world.
This led to the process of writing her debut novel, The Peach Seed, set in 2012 Southwest Georgia with flashbacks to the 1960s.
The manuscript was selected as a Finalist in the 2021 PEN/Bellwether Prize for Socially Engaged Fiction, and will be published August 1, 2023 by Henry Holt & Company.
In 2002, Anita and her husband, Rob Roehrick, founded the Gaines-Jones Education Foundation, awarding need-based college scholarships to Black students in southwest Georgia and the San Francisco Bay Area in memory of her mother, sister, and father.

After we cover the basics, we will branch into a variety of techniques that will get you going for hours to come.
This workshop, taught by members Amy Faulkner and Fran Halperin, is for everyone, art experience not required. We are all going through some crazy times. We all have ways of soothing ourselves some good, some bad. For many of us neurographics has been a tonic. Come see if it works for you!

Fran Halperin has been making art all her life and taught classes both at the studio and other venues over the last 20 years. Drawing, collage, making and altering books as well as art journaling have been an ongoing passion. She loves tapping into her students' creative juices.
This workshop, taught by member Laura Jorgensen, is for people who have never painted as well as those who have already picked up a brush. Grid painting is a terrific way to dive into painting and have happy results. Using acrylic paint of many colors we will be moving quickly from section to section on a large piece of watercolor paper divided into a grid. Create different versions of the same theme: a vase of flowers, fruit or a landscape. Who knows what else might emerge? When the grids are finished, we will cut them into individual paintings and mount them on greeting cards for you to take home and mail to your friends who will love having a painting from you!
About Laura
Laura started painting 20 years ago when she joined a small group of women artists on a trip to the South of France. Her life has never been the same. Using colorful acrylics she paints landscapes and the occasional bowl of fruit. She has found much joy in painting and loves to share with others the happy moments that come along with creative discovery. Laura also is an actress and has been known to tell a story or two.
COLOR LITERACY
In this one day workshop we’re going to look at color with a fresh perspective by way of the Color Literacy Project. Since color is a perception we each have a unique relationship with color and The Color Literacy Project is readdressing how we think about color. Color is complex so having a deeper understanding will enable you to navigate color with more ease and confidence. The exercises are interactive, eye opening, and FUN! We will explore new ways to see color and it will enhance the way you move forward in life/art with color as your new best friend.

About Ning
I have always been interested in art since I was a child. After decades as a professional artist, I am humbled to realize that the more I learn, the less I know. It is a vast, rich, yet somewhat solitary world, in which I am allowed to stretch and grow, both as an artist and as a living being. Music continues to be the inspiration for my work. The process of creating artwork not only teaches me to be honest, but makes me understand better the passion and compassion of the human race. Life’s beauty is everywhere - by sight, sound, or smell. I feel very lucky that every day I get a second chance to better myself in sharing them with you.
As a continuation of our Spring Book Altering workshop and previous Art Journaling classes, Studio 64 artists Nat and Fran will be offering a workshop focused on working cut outs. We will introduce different techniques for cutting windows and doors into your books and making fun edges.
This class is designed for folks who are currently working on an altered book or art journal but we are also happy to accommodate beginners. Bring your book or journal to class and if you don't have one we have many to choose from. All other supplies will be provided.
Nature journaling is a fantastic way to add peace into your day and look closely at the wonders of the natural world. You do not need to be an artist or a naturalist to keep a nature journal.
In this 3 hour workshop we will look at different types of nature journals, play with activities that integrate art, writing and observation skills and explore colors in nature with watercolors.
This workshop is appropriate for all ages. It’s never too early or too late to be reminded how connected we are with the complexity and beauty of the natural world all around us. You can use what you learn from this class to start an outdoor nature journaling practice of your own.
5x7 journal and materials provided
As a continuation of our March Book Altering workshop and previous Art Journaling classes, Studio 64 artists Nat and Fran will be offering a workshop focused on working with words and windows. We will experiment with several ways of playing with words by adding to and subtracting from what already exists on the page. In addition, we will introduce different techniques for cutting windows and doors into your books.
This class is designed for folks who are currently working on an altered book or art journal but we are happy to also accommodate beginners. Bring your book or journal to class. All other supplies will be provided.
